Where and How to Build

Habitat For Humanity Conyers/Rockdale / Where and How to Build

Habitat for Humanity of Conyers–Rockdale builds safe, affordable homes in partnership with families throughout our local community. Every project is shaped by available land, funding, and community needs, and each home is built with long-term stability in mind.

Where We Build

Habitat homes are built within Conyers and Rockdale County, focusing on neighborhoods where affordable housing can have a meaningful, lasting impact.

Build locations are determined by several factors, including:

  • Availability of buildable land
  • Zoning and local regulations
  • Infrastructure access (utilities, roads, services)
  • Community needs and long-term sustainability

Because land availability changes, build locations may vary from year to year.

Habitat does not allow applicants to choose specific neighborhoods or lots. Instead, homes are assigned based on program availability and partnership readiness.

How Homes Are Built

Habitat homes are built through a partnership model that brings together:

  • Future homeowners
  • Community volunteers
  • Skilled tradespeople
  • Donors and sponsors

Construction is overseen by Habitat staff or qualified site leaders to ensure quality, safety, and consistency.

Homes are built to meet or exceed local building codes and are designed to be:

  • Safe and durable
  • Energy-efficient
  • Affordable to maintain

The Role of Partner Families

Families selected for the Homeownership Program play an active role in the building process. This partnership may include:

  • Participating in construction or repair projects
  • Completing homeowner education classes
  • Supporting Habitat activities as required

This shared effort—often called sweat equity—helps keep homes affordable while building confidence and connection within the community.

Volunteers Make It Possible

Volunteers are essential to how Habitat builds homes. Individuals and groups of all experience levels help make construction possible.

No prior construction experience is required for most volunteer roles. Training and supervision are provided on-site.

Build Schedules & Availability

Build schedules depend on:

  • Funding and donations
  • Volunteer availability
  • Weather and construction timelines

Because of these variables, Habitat cannot guarantee specific build dates or immediate placement for applicants.

Our Commitment to the Community

Habitat for Humanity of Conyers–Rockdale is committed to building more than houses. We work to strengthen neighborhoods, support families, and create opportunities for affordable homeownership that last for generations.
