Sweat equity is the time and effort future homeowners contribute as part of Habitat for Humanity’s partnership model.
Rather than giving away homes, Habitat partners with families who actively participate in the process of becoming homeowners. Sweat equity may include:
- Helping on Habitat construction sites
- Attending homeowner education classes
- Supporting other approved Habitat activities
Sweat equity helps keep homes affordable while preparing families for long-term, successful homeownership.
The specific sweat equity requirements are explained to applicants later in the application process.
